In a direct jolt to Congress leader Kamal Nath, one of his closest supporters, Syed Jafar of Chhindwara, quit the Congress and joined the BJP on Monday.
Jafar took membership of the saffron party in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, MP BJP Chief V D Sharma, and other leaders.
He has been the vice-president of the MP Congress media cell and a member of the district panchayat of Chhindwara in the past. He was considered one of the closest leaders of Chhindwara to former Congress CM of MP Kamal Nath.
Belonging to the minority community, Sayed Jafar is regarded as a very influential Muslim leader of the region too.
Kamal Nath’s son, sitting Lok Sabha member Nakul Nath, is again the Congress candidate from Chhindwara for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Besides Syed Jafar, Ratlam district panchayat’s Congress leader Santosh Paliwal and about 50 other leaders and supporters of the area also quit the Congress and joined the BJP today.
